Ocean energy simply refers to the energy carried within the ocean. This energy presents itself in tides, waves, temperature differences and salinity. The simple movement of the oceans of the world creates a great deal of kinetic energy (energy possessed by any object due to the motion of the object), stored within the vast oceans. This energy is available for use by everyday people. The energy is harnessed and is capable of powering homes, transportation and even entire industries.

The term ocean energy covers two types of power. First, it covers wave power. Wave power is simply the power that comes from waves on the surface. Next, the term covers tidal power, the power obtained from the kinetic energy found in a large, moving body of water. Oceans possess an incredible amount of energy and are located by a huge amount of populous locations. Ocean power is capable of providing one of the largest forms of renewable energy found in the world.
